About Me: I’m a wife, mother of two, and grandmother of two. In my spare time, I’m a portrait and event photographer located in Houston, Texas, where I was born and raised.
What is your role and how long have you been at StoryCorps?
I’m the Director of Legal Contracting. I first came to StoryCorps one year ago and I report to our Chief Financial and Administrative Officer Lisa Stein.
In 2020, I was working as a Senior Paralegal and Contract Administrator for an energy company, where I had been for twelve years. During the pandemic, the company went through a merger that was not beneficial to me, or so I thought initially. I had six months to reorganize myself emotionally and professionally.
In January 2021, I became a contract employee, serving as Project Manager, Contract Manager, and Senior Paralegal for multiple organizations in the U.S., supporting departments in facets I never could have imagined. So, what I initially thought was a tough blow to me or my ego, turned out to be a huge blessing. I learned I can do many hard things.
What does your job entail?
As Director of Legal Contracting, I review, edit, and draft multiple contracts daily. I also support all teams across the organization with any legal inquiries, new templates, and special projects.
What are the rewards of your job?
Working at StoryCorps is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had the pleasure to support. I work with such diverse, amazing people who really care about the work we do. It’s very gratifying for me to know that my work adds value to the organization. Our Friday Listens, where the staff come together to hear the StoryCorps story chosen to be broadcast that week on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” is part of this gratifying work. To hear an interview that I had some small part in making happen, is really an amazing feeling. It’s also nice to have a moment each week set aside for leaning in and listening.
What are the challenges of your job?
The challenges of my job relate more to me truly understanding the needs of those who have legal needs within our organization.
Why should everyone record a conversation with StoryCorps?
I think everyone has a great story within them that needs to be shared. These stories bring about human connection. So many people walk around this life thinking they have nothing to add, but StoryCorps demonstrates otherwise.
What’s your favorite StoryCorps story?
I have heard many great stories, but my favorite was the one with Mary Johnson-Roy, Oshea Israel, and Ed Roy. It truly shows the power of true love and forgiveness.
