Beau McCall (BM): I’m halfway up the stairs and I hear this voice, ‘I like your coat.’ [laughs] And I said to myself, ‘Oh God, here’s a newsy neighbor.’
Julaina Glass (JG): And I seen someone walking up the steps just so unique looking. And I’m like, ‘Who is this person?’ So, I was- ‘Hey, good morning.’ And you pause, glanced over, and you’s like, ‘Oh, hi.’ And then you kept on going.
BM: I kept and on going.
JG: That was our first introduction. But you know, I’m only 19, and I’m a baby, on my own, don’t know what life is about. And you’re like twenty eight at this time, twenty nine. So, in the morning time I would come upstairs…
BM: And you would say, ‘You got anything to eat?’ [Laughs] And then my partner would say, ‘Oh, we have so and so, so and so.” I was like, ‘Don’t tell her that ‘cause she’s gonna be comin’ up here an’ eatin’’
JG: [Laughs] It was- it was my go to place.
BM: Remember when we used to sit out on the stoop, in my little mini skirt that I made.
JG: If that was a mini skirt, um… [laughs] I would say more like, belt, yes. But, you know, you were the only person that I truly got close to, spent quality time with. You know what I mean?
BM: I kind of felt like, you were young, and it was so much going on.
JG: So much.
BM: In the building, in the neighborhood…
JG: Mmhmm.
BM: On the block… That I felt that I needed to protect you.
JG: And I felt protected with you. It was just a wonderful time for us.
BM: We got a lot of stories but, remember when you first became a Muslim?
JG: Oh my goodness. I gave you the pep talk. I was like, ‘Can’t see my hair…
BM: Right.
JG: …anymore. You can’t see me, you know, outside of my head wrap.’ So, I spent the night. So, I was taking a shower. Well, I looove Savion Glover.
BM: Oh yes. [laughs]
JG: I mean, I just had such a big crush on him. So, you was like, ‘Julie…’
JG/BM: ‘Savion’s on TV.’
JG: I ran out the shower butt naked. [Laughs] And you was like, ‘Where is the, um, rules? Um..’
BM: Yeah.
JG: ‘…I can’t see your hair?’
BM: Your whole everything I see.
JG: [Laughs] It just all flew out the window. But, you know, you my brother and I love you, and I’m comfortable with you.
BM: Yes, yes.
JG: Clearly.
BM: What I want to say is that I love you. I didn’t love you from day one, [laughs] but, you know, as time went on, you’re a part of me.
JG: You’re my forever love.
